I can not believe another year has gone by. I remember like it was yesterday. The pain never goes away. I will miss you always. I think of you everyday. Hey Darrell, K is getting big. I know you would be soooo proud of her to know that she scored ADVANCED READING. Knowing the struggles you had with reading I know you've been standing over her with that cheering her on.
She is in the end of 7th grade and I can see the changes in her. She thinks about you a lot and she wants to know why you did what you did. She knows that there would be nothing that she or you could do about it because God called you to leave, but the way you had to go pisses her off. I explained to her that sometimes people do things not thinking of what the consequences may be and that just because you drank doesn't mean that is why or how you died. Katie has been hanging out with boys as well as girls at school and has been wanting to do things with boys out side of school (like going to the movies or the mall) also. She hasn't had the opportunity yet but she's been asking and if she goes to her friends house she will eventually have her way. I had a talk with her. I told her that our love for her (as her parents and family) is unconditional (and I explained to her what it meant). I told her that I understood that this is the year that she is or has been exposed to so much more (sexually) than any other year. I know she isn't stupid and she's heard of the sexual lingo and how I just think it's important that she doesn't do co-ed stuff without a parent watching over (right now). I told her I know she has friends telling her how cool it is to have sex and yet how the reality of it all is, IT ISN'T (at her age). That she won't know how special that is until she is older. She sees women who dress trashy and laughs and says "she looks like a whore." I wish she wasn't so judgmental but at the same time, it gives me reassurance that she doesn't want to be like that. Watch over her. Keep her safe. I don't want to go on and on with her because I don't want it to start going in one ear and out the other. My only hopes are this though....
I hope she knows how loved she truely is. I hope she knows how proud we are of her. I hope I can trust her to come to me before she's ready. I hope she has the confidence to say "no" when the time comes. I hope she has the self esteem to know that she doesn't have to say yes to feel loved. I hope she knows how smart she is. I hope she knows what a great personality she has. I know she knows how beautiful she is. She is the whole package. She can go anywhere she wants in life if she just stays on the right path.
